The National Cadet Corps (NCC) is a Tri-Services Organisation comprising the Army, Navy, and Air Force, engaged in grooming the youth – “The Leaders of Tomorrow” – into disciplined and patriotic citizens.

The genesis of the NCC can be traced back to the First World War, when the British introduced the University Corps as a second line of defence to create a pool of trained youth for the Armed Forces.

📜 Historical Background

After independence, the present-day NCC under the Ministry of Defence came into existence on 16 April 1948 through the NCC Act XXXI, 1948. It was formally inaugurated on 15 July 1948. The Girls Division began in July 1949, followed by the Air Wing in 1950 and the Naval Wing in July 1952, completing the Tri-Services structure. Today, NCC has approximately 13 lakh cadets across the country.

🎯 Aim of N.C.C.

To develop qualities of Character, Courage, Comradeship, Discipline, Leadership, Secular Outlook, Spirit of Adventure, and the ideals of Selfless Service among the youth of the country.

🪖 Training Activities

Based on its aims, the NCC has laid down structured training syllabi for cadets. The syllabus covers:

  • Junior Division: Two years
  • Senior Division: Three years

Except for minor variations, the syllabus is similar for both boys and girls. The training schedules are planned to ensure maximum participation and holistic development of cadets.
